DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION SERIES

KEY THEMES:

  • Feeling lost
  • Abstraction as a creative tool

Feelings are sometimes difficult to capture; or perhaps more accurately, difficult to capture in a way that makes sense to others.

This series of visual experiments is it exactly that. It was created fuelled by a juxtaposition of emotions: feeling lost after completing my second year of university during lockdown, feeling pressure to produce work ‘as normal’ and admonishing myself for not being as productive as I could have been, but ultimately feeling hope for the future of my career in the creative industry. For me, communicating my own thoughts and feelings through illustration or photography always manifests itself in an abstract form.

I relish in the comfort and joy that I find in experimenting with shape and colour, with no restrictions on legibility or rationality. And in the precise moment that I was creating these visuals, this what I needed: I needed my creative comfort blanket – reassurance that whilst the world is a scary place, I can always rely on my creativity to a new headspace.
